The architect Reinhard Madritsch from Innsbruck supported the builders of the Bärenwirt inn in Assling in the East Tyrolean Puster Valley in extensively renovating and restructuring the “Bärenstadl” event hall and making it usable for occasions year-round. All kinds of events with a size of up to 500 people can be accommodated in the new location. The inventory from the 1980s had already been extensively renovated in 2000, but to date the hall was only used in summer. After only eight months of construction, the project was completed at an altitude of 1,300 metres in May 2023.
When selecting the timber construction products, they relied on the know-how and quality of their neighbour THEURL and opted for the product mix of CLTPLUS, glulam and sawn timber from the family company from Assling. A total of 75 m³ of industrial quality glulam was used for the new roof truss construction, as well as for the beams. When constructing the wall and ceiling elements, the planners relied on 40 m³ of CLTPLUS in visible and industrial quality, also including joinery.
CLTPLUS was also chosen for the material for the stairs that lead to the new panoramic lounge. Already during the construction phase, the CLTPLUS staircase, which is easy to assemble, can connect floors and thus make the use of expensive, temporary stairs obsolete. This allows two floors to be connected directly using a solid wood element which has been individually manufactured in the joinery service centre.
