Wood as far as the eye can see. The architectural office CBA, which specialises in design using standardised components and room modules, has built a holiday home made entirely of wood in the Bavarian town of Bad Kohlgrub. The walls, ceilings, roof panels and canopy panels were made of CLT elements. The surfaces were largely left raw, which gives the modern design a cosy atmosphere. A total of 1,069 square metres of CLT panels were installed, 657 square metres of which are visible surfaces.
This was possible thanks to precise factory prefabrication by CLT experts THEURL. The entire electrical planning as well as all milling for cables and sockets were performed 100% in advance. A special feature of the pilot project is the woodworking of the visible walls for electrics, for which deep holes were cut for cables. All components were also provided with prefabricated lifting gear for uncomplicated and later invisible assembly.
The planning and construction, as well as waste optimisation, were carried out by the MTS company, when choosing the construction programme, the planners chose hsbCAD.
Pilot Project CBA 141
Our pilot project CBA 141 will be built over two of three floors using CTL. The digital building material CLT (cross laminated timber = solid wood) allows us to increase the degree of prefabrication and define shell construction qualities. Through our partner for digital timber construction, Mass Timber Solutions GmbH, we have created a digital twin as the basis for future planning steps.
