Wood in kindergarten
A healthy environment for our little treasures
The new facility in Brunn am Gebirge isn’t just a kindergarten with bright and friendly atmosphere. Thanks to its high functionality and modern interior design, it offers the best setting for contemporary pedagogy. Constructed from wood, the building offers natural and healthy indoor surroundings for children. The building gives children their first experiences with wood as a construction material.
The kindergarten was designed by architectural firm goya. Built on two levels, the wooden construction is adapted to the needs of children both indoors and outdoors and offers plenty of space for playing. The building is located right next to the primary school. Four units are organised over 1,070 m² of usable space. The ground floor cluster is home to three group rooms, one of them for infants and the administration. Two further group rooms, as well as a room for the music school, are located on the upper floor. Industrial quality was used for the ceiling elements and parapets. The walls, on the other hand, put emphasis on visual quality. Not only does this create a pleasant indoor climate, the visible wall surfaces also raise awareness for wood as a building material. A total of 445 m³ of CLTPLUS were installed in the kindergarten.
Timber construction makes for a better climate
As a building material, wood wins in many ways. The high degree of prefabrication means very short construction times, which helps to alleviate construction costs and even allowed the kindergarten to open its doors a few months earlier than planned. Apart from the educational aspect, the youngest receive an example of how important it is to think, act, and even build, sustainably.
